Below is information you will need to know as Freshman preparing to find housing for Sophomore year.

Looking Ahead for Housing
-
In October/November - Start thinking about sophomore-year housing early; many swimmers and divers begin searching in October or November of freshman year.
-
Check with Current Swimmers - First check with current team members, especially upperclassmen, about available leases, apartments, or houses.
-
Take Over Leases - Look for opportunities to take over leases from seniors or teammates who are moving out.
-
Find Places Near Pool - Apartments and houses closest to the pool are most popular and go quickly, so start asking questions early and stay connected with teammates.
-
Summer Subletting - If planning to stay in Tuscaloosa over the summer, consider subletting from teammates who are going home, but always confirm that the lease allows subletting.
-
Find Out Details - Before signing any lease or sublet, discuss key details: roommates, lease dates, rent, utilities, parking, transportation, safety, distance from the pool, and any extra fees or deposits.
-
Terms of Lease - When taking over a lease, clarify lease terms, move-in dates, and whether lease transfers or subleasing are allowed.
-
Talk to Current Seniors - Encourage swimmers and divers to ask seniors about upcoming lease openings and to talk with teammates who have already navigated the housing process.
-
Housing Decisions - Remember that housing decisions are made by each swimmer, diver, and family; this guidance is to help with timing and important questions to consider.
